The Internet has provided so many more options to help you get just the content you want for less. So, if you have reliable wireless internet and are interested in cutting the cord, attend this class to learn how to navigate through all of the options so that you can cut cable TV and legally stream your content online so you pay less and still get your shows. Instructor Leah Gomes is PVAEC’s Career and College Transitions instructor. She has taught many successful computer/technology courses over the years.

This 11-hour program is the first part of the educational preparation for direct care hospice volunteers and for bereavement facilitators. Direct care volunteers serve hospice clients and families, but do not provide physical, nursing, or medical care. Bereavement facilitators support bereaved adults, children and families in structured group settings. Noel Topping, current - experienced professional photographer in a variety of forms ranging from Portraits, Products, Events, Landscapes, Graphics and having photographed over 200 weddings is willing to share what he has learned about photography in technical detail. Experienced teacher having taught all the Bangor Photo classes in it's time and years of teaching in Adult Education Programs has brought the fun of his work to the classroom. Classes are as entertaining as they are informative. Classically trained yet modernized in the current digital photography world.

Direct Care Hospice Volunteers Fall 2017

After completing the Core Curriculum, this 9-hour program prepares volunteers to provide direct service to hospice families, but does not include physical, nursing, or medical care. “Direct care” involves being with a hospice client and family and may include quiet companionship, respite care, transportation, or activities such as fishing, playing cards, reading or excursions. Direct care volunteers may choose to participate in any direct or indirect care Pine Tree Hospice function. Certificates are awarded after completion. Bring your own ukulele and Learn to play or brush up on your ukulele skills: Learn how to tune your Uke, get to know the basic chords and strumming patterns for many favorite tunes, and have fun playing and singing. Susan Abel has been playing the ukulele and other string instruments for years and has directed the DRHS Ukulele Club, a multigenerational group for over two years. The ukulele is a four string fun and easy to play instrument for all occasions. This class is open to children 10 and above accompanied by an adult.

Domestic Abuse Intervention Training for New Volunteers Fall 2017

Organization: Partners for Peace, formerly Spruce Run-Womancare Alliance Description: Partners for Peace, the domestic violence resource center formerly known as Spruce Run-Womancare Alliance, will host a 40-hour training in Dover-Foxcroft for anyone interested in volunteering with the organization. The training will begin in August and take place over the course of 6-7 weeks. Partners for Peace provides support services to anyone affected by domestic abuse and violence in the Penobscot and Piscataquis County region including a free & confidential 24-hour helpline. Double Knit: Design Your Own with Two Colors Fall 2017

Can you knit and purl? Then your can double knit! Together we’ll create your own personalized colorful design, then make a chart using two or more colors. You can make your chart with paper and pencil or with an electronic tablet. Choose to create a sturdy reversible pot holder, hot pad, coaster, or scarf. Your double knit project will be elegant with integrated ends and smooth sides. Bring with you: yarn of your choice, two main colors, a circular needle or set of two needles of any size to create the tension you like, one set of two needles, one size larger, for casting on, a crochet hook for hiding ends and fixing errors, and a tapestry needle for binding off. Sherry Corbin RN., M.S. is a retired professor of nursing, Gendai Reiki Master/Teacher, Pine Tree Hospice direct care volunteer, and webmaster. She is an experienced PVAEC educator and has taught many successful knitting classes.

Learn tips and techniques to realistic pen and ink to create a detailed “Maine” barn scene similar to the style of Historical artist Eric Sloan. Students will learn to use varying line width, shading and texturing methods to give the look of barn wood and landscape elements.
