Intermediate Clay Fall 2018

$120

with Jemma Gascoine

Calendar Oct 4, 2018 at 4:30 pm, runs for 8 weeks

This is an open session class for clay artists who are at the intermediate stage and may have a specific project they want to work on in mind. Students will be encouraged to practice and hone their skills on the pottery wheel or alternatively be given hand-building projects to do on the slab roller such as butter dishes or straight-sided boxes with inset lids to fit. We shall explore surface decoration techniques like slip-trailing and sgraffito. In 2015 Jemma Gascoine founded the Monson Pottery Workshop at the Monson Arts Center in order to help meet the demand there was for teaching clay workshops. She has been teaching clay to all ages since 2005. She sells her work through the Monson Pottery Workshop, Pinelands Market and Maine Craft Portland, her artist resume can be found on her website www.jemmagascoine.com Clay is fun but it's messy so wear old clothes or bring an apron and tie hair back. Bring clean up rags and any pottery tools you have. It's not as easy as it looks so bring some patience too!
