Stained Glass for Beginners Spring 2024

Students will learn the Tiffany style of stained glass, consisting of cutting, grinding, foiling, and soldering. All tools and supplies are included for the first three pieces. Students will create a beginner learning piece, a night light, and a candle holder. Students can purchase additional materials from the instructor if they choose to make more pieces.

Dusty Trombley has been working with stained glass for over 40 years. She has taught over 1000 people in many different adult ed classes. She has done a lot of repair work including church windows and developed pieces from photographs. Dusty enjoys the creativity that glass allows. 

Dusty welcomes students of all ages however, students under 17 must be accompanied by an adult.

 

Textured Slab Trays Spring 2024

Weekend Ceramics Workshops All classes are taught by instructor, Cody Clinton, and will be held at PHEC on Saturday and Sunday from 10am-4pm. Finished pieces will be dried and fired after the workshop ends, and be made available for pickup approximately 2 weeks after the workshop unless otherwise specified. We will explore creating textured slabs of clay by hand and using a pressing technique to form them into trays, platters, plates, and even bowls. Day one will be dedicated to learning the process and creating one or two pieces that we will allow to firm up for day two. Day two will allow you time to bring back some of your forms, and textures to experiment with using the technique, as well as we will teach you how to add embellishments and functional components to your pieces such as handles and feet.

Piscataquis Geology Spring 2024

Explore the geological wonders of Piscataquis County! This class is not your typical exploration—it’s a captivating blend of in-class research and hands-on fieldwork. Dive deep into the rich mining history of the region, with a special focus on towns like Guilford (known for silver mines) and Blanchard (home to beryl and black tourmaline mines). Our adventure extends to the local rivers, where we’ll seek out precious stones and minerals, including gold, pyrite, feldspar, smokey quartz, jasper, chert, rhyolite, and other semi-precious gems that have left their mark on Piscataquis County. Stay tuned for exciting field dates and locations, all thoughtfully chosen for easy accessibility. Come prepared in comfortable clothing and footwear for an exploration that promises not just knowledge but a genuine hands-on experience of the geological treasures that define our region. Get ready to unearth the secrets beneath your feet!

Homemade Candy and other Delights Spring 2024

Why not! Let’s get together for a three-hour class to go over some of my favorite treats. We will go over how to make homemade chocolate, turtles, peanut butter cups, peppermint patties, chocolate covered pretzels, coconut clusters, salted caramels, candy nuts, caramel corn, and maybe even maple fudge. We will learn the basic tools and materials, ingredients, recipes, and step-by-step process. 

All classes are taught by instructor, Jessica Steele and all materials are included. Registration and payment are required to hold your spot in class. Space is limited! Cancellations must be made at least 48 hours in advance to receive a refund. If our Adult Ed office or instructor cancel class, refunds will be issued to students.

Alcohol Ink Tile Coaster Spring 2024

Work with rescued tiles, alcohol ink, and resin to create a set of four 4x4 unique coasters. Please bring: an apron, box of disposable gloves, alcohol inks of your choice, 99% rubbing alcohol, sturdy glue (e-6000), glitter, felt, small paint brushes, metallic markers and a small 2-part resin kit. Tiles will be provided by the instructor.

Pour Paint Resin Tile Coaster Spring 2024

We will combine pour painting with resin to create a set of four 4x4 unique tiles. Things can get messy - please dress appropriately. Students should bring their own: acrylic paints of choice, glitter, metallic markers, 2-part resin kit, a box of disposable gloves, felt for backing, sturdy glue (e-6000) and an apron. Tiles will be provided by the instructor.
