Writing for Publication

Interested in becoming a published writer, but not sure how to get started? If so, this could be the class for you. Learn how to properly format various types of manuscripts, and how to locate and approach the appropriate editors for your story, poem, article or book. The class is custom-designed to assist new writers in every stage of the process from developing that great idea to polishing the manuscript to sending out query letters to editors. Learn how to research the markets and find publications that fit your work. Please bring notebooks, pens, and draft manuscripts if you have one. You can bring your own laptop or use one of our computers. Freelance writer/photographer Sheila Grant guides beginners through the publication process during this six-week class. Grant has been a published writer/photographer for two decades. Her work has been recognized by the Maine Press Association and the New England Outdoor Writers Association. She is a the editorial director of a downtown revitalization newsletter covering all of North America, and a regular contributor to Maine Seniors magazine. Her work has also appeared in The Boston Globe, Bangor Metro, The Piscataquis Times, Bangor Daily News Special Sections, Northwoods Sporting Journal, and Game and Fish magazines covering Ohio, New York, Pennsylvania and New England.
