Beginner Pottery

with Jemma Gascoine

This class aims to teach beginners how to throw a pot on a potter's wheel. We will look at the round shape of a soup bowl and the cylindrical shape of a mug. We will try throwing, trimming, firing and glazing pots. There are four potter's wheels at the workshop and an electric kiln. It's not about quantity, it's about learning good throwing techniques and trying to make 'well-made' work. It's fun but it's messy so wear old clothes or bring an apron and tie long hair back. Bring clean up rags and any pottery tools if you have them. It's not as easy as it looks so bring some patience too! Jemma Gascoine has been selling her pottery and sculpture nationally for sixteen years and has been teaching clay to all ages for twelve years. She owns and runs the Monson Pottery Workshop at the new Art Center in Monson.
