America's Boating Course Spring 2020

with Dan Seneca

Class has begun

The basic four evening (8 hour + exam) course is designed to familiarize the student with the fundamentals of safe boating and to qualify for certification in most states that require boating education before operating a watercraft. Coverage includes safety equipment, trip planning, navigation rules and aids, state and federal regulations, anchoring, dealing with adverse conditions and emergencies, communications, trailering, and knots and lines. The information is useful for users of all sorts of watercraft (power, sail, paddle) and for both ocean and freshwater boating. The course includes an examination. An optional Part II course extension ( two weeks, four hours) introduces students to navigation and the use of charts - important information on determining where you are and how to go where you wish to go safely. Part II requires no homework or exam. Students who wish to continue through Part II may wish to purchase a course plotter ($7.50) and dividers ($15), although these are not necessary. Course tuition is $41 which includes the price of the student manual ($26) which may be shared. For students who wish to share, just add $15 per registration. Please bring a pen and paper to class.
