Do you want to be a substitute teacher? Our local schools are in great need of subs! Attend our one-day Substitute Teacher Workshop and our Suicide Awareness & Prevention Workshop (which is required training for all Maine school employees) and receive a Substitute Teacher Certification that is recognized by PVAEC’s four member districts (MSAD 4, MSAD 41, MSAD 68 and AOS 94). Substitute Teacher Workshop This fun program is designed to prepare people interested in serving as a substitute teacher or ed-tech. There will be plenty of “hands-on learning” that will include important classroom management techniques and teaching strategies. We’ll also cover some legal aspects and help you develop your own “sub pack” of resources and an action plan that will get you started on the right foot! If you’ve been subbing, this is a great opportunity for a “refresher” and some new ideas. Attendees will earn a certificate recognized by many local districts. One student comments, “…very engaging with a lot of real-life scenarios. I came away with new information even after subbing for a year.” Walter Boomsma has worked in the field of developing individual and organization effectiveness for over forty years. He currently teaches with the Real Estate Learning Group and is a “battle-tested” substitute school teacher at Piscataquis Community Elementary School. He is a volunteer “bookworm” with second and third graders and says he “learns a lot” from the stories they read to him and the conversations they have. His book, “Small People — Big Brains” details some of his experiences and lessons the kids have taught him.

Enrollment in this course will automatically enroll you into our Suicide Awareness and Prevention Workshop (a requirement for all Maine school employees).

Please note there is a non-refundable $1.99 credit card registration fee for online registrations. If a class is cancelled for any reason, we are unable to refund the $1.99 registration fee. Call us at 564-6525 to make arrangements for paying by check or cash, and avoiding the non-refundable registration fees. Paying online is safe, easy and convenient so if you're happy to pay the extra $1.99 registration fee, we welcome you to do so.
